Colliers Green Focus is a project which brings together photography and geography in an inspiring and practical way, complementing other work taking place in the curriculum. Over the last few years we have developed an innovative methodology whereby every student is helped to find a way to explore and share their own interpretation of a site. Of utmost importance is that the work happens in close proximity to a school; by focusing on thier environment at a local level students will develop a sense of empathy that enables them to see ways that they can positively impact the wider world.
There are two ways in which your school can take part in Colliers Green Focus. You can choose either the 'Mobile' or 'Compact' approach.
Colliers Green Focus Mobile
Your school can run its own Colliers Green Focus field-trip. Geography teachers can attend one of our INSET sessions led by our professional geographer and photographer. They will provide a step by step guide to planning and leading a stimulating day out for students using photography to capture a 'sense of place'. Previous skills in photography are not required - this is a great opportunity to try something new.
Colliers Green Focus Compact
Every year Gyles Morris (geographer) and Richard Chivers (photographer) visit 10 schools for a day and lead a Colliers Green Focus field-trip. They work with the school to make the activities inspiring and to boost pupils' insight into their local environment and interpretation through photography. They bring with them a set of regular digital compact cameras for the school to use that day.
