Competition Judge and Project Photographer Richard Chivers said of Bryn Clarke's winning photograph,"This is a beautifully composed photograph that highlights a strange primitive looking coalmine in the Forest of Dean. What is this structure and who uses it? The photograph demands to be studied to find the answers and captures the prominent human relationship with nature within the Forest. The coalmine in this photograph is one of about 10 mines in the Forest of Dean used by Freeminers whom have a right to freely mine the Forest as they have been born within the Forest's boundaries. This tradition has been going for 700 years but may soon be coming to an end as the only Hospital in this area is due to close."
